Motto

Serve. Educate. Advocate.

Mission Statement

MEI empowers the Marshallese community through education, direct services, cultural preservation, and human rights advocacy to advance community-led solutions that heal the health, environmental, and cultural wounds of nuclear colonialism.

We foster intercultural understanding and champion nuclear and climate justice to build an equitable, peaceful world for all.

Vision Statement

We envision a future where the Marshallese people are the authors of their own narrative. Ours is a story of cultural vibrancy and holistic well-being, and one grounded in traditional wisdom and cultural values. This future overcomes the twin existential threats of nuclear colonialism and the climate crisis, and restores the health of our people, lands, and waters.

Logo Description

The MEI logo embodies the organization’s mission, vision, and mantra—Serve. Educate. Advocate.—through Marshallese cultural symbols and global justice imagery. Its colors draw from the Marshall Islands flag: blue for the ocean and sky, white for peace, and orange for courage. At the center stands a breadfruit tree, a symbol of enduring Marshallese life. Its 35 leaves represent the 29 atolls and 6 islands; its fruit, the twelve chiefdoms; its four branches, the core values of kindness, love, respect, and reciprocity; and its trunk, the unity of the Marshallese people. Beneath the tree, the Runit Dome roots the logo in the struggle against nuclear colonialism, with the tree’s roots spreading into the dome to signify healing, resilience, and the dismantling of nuclear colonialism. A design used for special events incorporates olive branches inspired by the United Nations logo, framing the design and positioning MEI on the international stage as an advocate for intercultural understanding and nuclear and climate justice. Together, the tree and dome mirror MEI’s programs and its commitment to advancing community-driven solutions for a just and peaceful world.
